Post Superbowl Abbreviation

I hope everyone enjoyed the Super Bowl.  For me my favorite was all the Super Bowl Babies, and seeing that guy from Carolina flying over both teams for the touchdown, even though Carolina went on to lose.

So because the Super Bowl usually involves snacks I thought we'd do a post Super Bowl food related definition.

CHO - Carbohydrate

Basically a carbohydrate is not a protein, but most people associate carbohydrates with bread products and sweets because they're what our body recognizes first as carbohydrates, in other words the body doesn't have to much to break down carbohydrates into usable sugars.

The most common space to see this abbreviation is in diet orders or discussions about diet.  For any number of reasons patients can be on what's called a carbohydrate controlled diet, limiting the amount of carbohydrates that the person eats in an attempt to either control a disease process or for health promotion.

Example

Diet Order: CHO controlled

Pt reports decreased BG levels on CHO controlled diet. (Patient reports decreased blood glucose levels on carbohydrate controlled diet).
